Vanni tiene in mano il coltello. Fa qualche passo indietro, ma rimane imponente quasi quanto la montagna alle sue spalle.
Vanni holds his knife. He takes a few steps back, still looming almost as large as the mountain behind him.
Saro si toglie lo zaino dalle spalle. Vanni si toglie la coppola e la getta a terra. Il duello ha inizio.
Saro takes his pack off his shoulder. Vanni removes his cap and throws it on the ground. The duel begins.
Saro tira fuori un coltellino tascabile e lo apre. Gli uomini si fissano ferocemente, mentre in sottofondo risuona una musica stridente.
Saro takes out a pocket knife and opens it. The men stare at each other fiercely, as strident music plays in the background.
Con la neve tutt'intorno, gli uomini prendono posizione.
Saro si lancia e Vanni indietreggia.
With snow all around, the men take their positions.
Saro lunges, and Vanni steps back.
Saro si lancia di nuovo in avanti, ma Vanni rimane fermo, con il coltello in mano. Al terzo colpo di Saro, Vanni fa un altro passo indietro, proteggendosi il viso con il braccio.
Again Saro lunges forward, but Vanni stands firm, knife in hand. At Saro’s third blow, Vanni steps back again, protecting his face with his arm.
Vediamo i piedi che danzano sulla neve, mentre gli uomini si affrontano, pugnalandosi e spingendosi.
We see feet dancing in the snow, as the men engage, stabbing at each other and pushing.
Intanto i compaesani lassù sul sentiero di montagna hanno notato che Saro non è con loro.
Barbara chiede: “Saro... Dov'è Saro?” Come gli altri, è avvolta in una coperta e carica di bagagli.
Meanwhile, the villagers up on the mountain trail have noticed that Saro is not with them.
Barbara asks, “Saro… Where’s Saro?” Like the others, she’s wrapped tightly and burdened with luggage.
Brasi si avvicina e le prende il braccio. “Andiamo, su, vieni”.
“No!” Lei corre indietro lungo il sentiero.
Brasi walks over and takes her arm. “Let’s go, come on.”
“No!” She runs back down the trail.
Brasi chiama Luca, che si unisce a lui per cercare Saro.
Brasi calls Luca, who joins him to look for Saro.
In un campo lungo, vediamo i due uomini in combattimento, le loro sagome contro la strada coperta di neve. Una fila di alberi spogli corre in diagonale sullo sfondo, mentre una massa rocciosa ricoperta di neve occupa il primo piano.
In a long shot, we see the two men in combat, their silhouettes against the snow-covered road. A line of bare trees runs diagonally in the rear, and a snow-draped bulk of rock holds the foreground.
Individuando gli uomini, Barbara grida: “Saro!”
Catching sight of the men, Barbara yells, “Saro!”
Lascia cadere la borsa sul fianco della strada e corre verso di loro. “Saro! No, Vanni! No!”
She drops her satchel at the side of the road and runs toward them. “Saro! No, Vanni! No!”
Vedendo il braccio alzato di Vanni, pronto a pugnalare Saro, Barbara corre e gli afferra le mani. Saro la tira via per una spalla, spingendola giù sulla neve.
Seeing Vanni’s lifted arm, ready to stab Saro, Barbara runs up and grabs his hands. Saro pulls her away by the shoulder, shoving her down onto the snow.
Mentre il combattimento continua, vediamo dei primi piani di Barbara e Saro, entrambi concentrati e intensi.
As the fight continues, we see close-ups of Barbara and Saro, each one focused and intense.
Vanni si china, prende una manciata di neve e la lancia in faccia a Saro.
Vanni stoops, grabs a handful of snow, and throws it in Saro’s face.
Saro si riprende e Vanni gli si lancia contro. Ma Saro gli blocca il braccio e lo pugnala.
Saro recovers and Vanni lunges at him. But Saro blocks his arm and stabs him.
Barbara porta la mano alla bocca, inorridita. Sul fianco della montagna, Brasi urla e agita la coppola trionfante: “Saro!”
Barbara raises her hand to her mouth, horrified. On the mountainside, Brasi yells and waves his cap triumphantly, “Saro!”
Il coltello di Vanni cade dalla sua mano e lui crolla a terra. Barbara lo fissa incredula. In primo piano, vediamo i piedi di Vanni rivolti verso l'interno, il coltello sulla neve lì vicino.
Vanni’s knife falls from his hand, and he collapses to the ground. Barbara stares at him, unbelieving. In close-up, we see his feet turned in, the knife on the snow nearby.
Saro abbassa lo sguardo, facendo una smorfia. Barbara gli si avvicina, accigliata, con lo sguardo rivolto verso il basso. Si fa il segno della croce.
Saro looks down, grimacing. Barbara goes to him, frowning, gaze downturned. She crosses herself.
Saro guarda il suo coltello con disgusto. Lo getta a terra e si copre il viso con la mano. Barbara mette la mano sulla sua.
Saro looks at his knife in disgust. He throws it down and covers his face with his hand. Barbara puts her hand on his.
Lui sussulta. Lei appoggia la testa sulla sua spalla e lui la stringe a sé. Di nuovo vediamo gli stivali di Vanni nella neve.
He winces. She puts her head against his shoulder, and he holds her close. Again we see Vanni’s boots in the snow.
Fuori campo, Brasi grida: “Saro!” Lui e Barbara alzano lo sguardo. Il cappotto di lei è ricoperto di neve, da quando Saro l'ha spinta.
Brasi dice al gruppo: “Andiamo”. La chitarra di Mommino è legata al suo zaino.
Off-screen, Brasi yells, “Saro!” He and Barbara look up. Her coat is dusted with snow, from when Saro pushed her.
Brasi tells the group, “Let’s go.” Mommino’s guitar is tied to his pack.
Saro e Barbara si guardano intensamente negli occhi, poi si voltano in silenzio per riunirsi al gruppo.
Saro and Barbara stare at each other intently and then turn silently to rejoin the group.
